Onesan means "older sister", they weren't actually sisters. The older one was a mentor to the younger apprentice and taught her everything she needded to know.

1890's - Oiran (花魁) were courtesans in Japan. The oiran were considered a type of yūjo (遊女) "woman of pleasure". S)

The japanese prostitute, "baishunfu", would dress themselves like Geisha in order to attract costumers. Notice the difference. The baishunfu has a large assortment of hair accessories (over the top), and her obi unties in the front.
