Rene Lacoste. In the 1920s, the tennis player designed a short-sleeved cotton knit shirt with a longer tail so it would not pull out when he was playing tennis. Nicknamed "the crocodile", the designer decided to mark his shirt with a crocodile logo. The Lacoste shirt became popular in general sportswear.
