Convergence zone (ITCZ) does not coincide with geographical equator, it lies at meteorological equator (thermal equator): irregular imaginary line of thermal equilibrium between hemispheres (about 5 degrees north of equator); position of ITCZ & equator coincide & change w/ seasons, move farther north in n. summer & return toward equator in n. winter; the doldrums, trade winds, horse latitudes, westerlies shift north in n. summer as well
