Art Rocks!: Sneak Peek @ Art Room Mural and Collaborative Circle Paintings

Sneak Peek @ Art Room Mural and Collaborative Circle Paintings

I am surprised that I am up posting right now as today was an exhausting day. The kind of day I would not trade for anything but I am tired. The art room was double booked all day today and will be again tomorrow to make sure that all of my 1-5 grade artists are able to meet Will "Kasso" Condry, Muralist, to view him painting a mural in the art room "live" and to participate in a collaborative circle painting project that I am running. Busy, busy, busy. All that were in the art room today…

Barbara's Thought of the Day

I walked out of school yesterday feeling like I was on cloud nine. It wasn't just one thing. Everything just seemed to fall into place. Amazing when that happens. I'm really excited to share a piece of my joy with you...this project. It was definitely a BIG part of that feel-good feeling. The idea is derived from Hiep Nguyen's website: http://www.circlepainting.org/. Check it out, all the details about his project are there, along with lots of great artwork and videos. If you're looking for…

Third and Fourth grade collaborative circle paintings

I was so excited to see this idea of Circle Painting!! I first learned about it at Barbara's Thought of the Day and then at We Heart Art. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. for this wonderful idea. We are making several collaborative canvases with this technique and they are going to be raffled off at our end of the year school FUNdraiser. The kids had a blast creating these paintings. This is the first video I have edited using Imovie! I'm planning on making two more canvases with an older…

The Elementary Art Room!

Recently I was lucky enough to purchase two ipad minis from Donors Choose. The parents at my school, as well as friends and family, made this purchase possible. We are so excited to be using the ipads on a daily basis to learn more about art, explore famous paintings, edit our own art projects, practice animation, and travel to places around the world! Here are some of our recent projects! Kindergartners have been learning about American artist, Charley Harper, and have used a great app…

Fine Lines: Circle Paintings on a Windy Day

Circle Paintings on a Windy Day

This was definitely "one of those days!!" Winds up to 100 miles an hour in Southern California, although we did not have the high winds that were predicted in our little corner of the land! That being said, on a day when I had about 125 drippy, wet, painted pieces (some large like these and some smaller projects) that needed drying space, a little breeze was welcome. I ran out of drying racks before lunch, so I strung some rope on the patio and hoped the winds would not kick up too much. (I…

Fine Lines: 3-D Circle Painting

3-D Circle Painting

For our final project of the year we worked on a variation of Circle Painting. I first read about Circle Painting on Barbara's blog here. I followed that idea, but added a variation of dimension to our piece. Since our school blocks YouTube I found some other sites with examples of circle painting to share with my group of 4th graders to give them the general idea. Kids worked in teams of 4, each with one color of paint, at separate tables. Each table had a different set of colors. One child…

We were asked to complete a 10-foot panel for a Principal's luncheon with the ACE (Arts & Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County) recently which needed to depict the art form of "Media Arts"...of which I do very little. I do not have a bank of computers or iPads (YET!!!) so we needed to get creative with our approach! I decided to do this special project with a group of 6 2nd grade self-contained ESE students. We watched a video on Circle Painting (www.circlepainting.org) and went to town…
