My Energy experiment was about Light Energy. The lesson began with a discussion on different types of things that had/made Light Energy. As the children told me their ideas about light energy, I would write them on the Smartboard, but in two different columns. In one column we had sun, lightning, fire, lightning bugs, etc…and in the other column we had lightbulb, flashlight, glowstick, lantern, match, etc.

Although the moon is a mysterious heavenly body, there’s a lot we know about it. Share the wonder with the kiddos in your classroom with an exciting lesson and Phases of the Moon activity. They’ll have a “blast” showing their knowledge of the moon and planets in a fun and interactive way! The moon is a long way away (238,855 miles, give or take a couple); however, these lessons will bring the topic down to earth so your little learners can add to their knowledge base!

Do you follow a specific curriculum for Science? Do you have a specific scope and sequence to follow? We use a science program called Science 21 in my district. It is a decent program, pretty hands on but everything is a worksheet. Worksheets definitely have a place in my classroom, but for science I like something a bit more interactive, which aligns with the lesson and/or experiment we are doing in class.

Hey teacher peeps! With this year being the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing, we’ve been over the moon with excitement! There’s something about that big, beautiful sphere in the night sky that ignites the imagination and inspires awe. It happens with all of us–young and old. The kiddos in our classroom can be inspired, too; so let’s blast off on an adventure to teach a “Phases of the Moon” activity during Guided Reading!
