"It’s okay to not do the thing everyone thinks you should do. On paper I had a great job, but it wasn’t fulfilling me in the way that I needed it to. The younger version of myself would just accept that. Now I’m 33 and said “no, it’s okay to switch your career and do something else.”" -Shannon in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania started her online business, a collection-based home goods shop called Yowie using Pinterest

"I had this idea that during the month of July, I wanted to really create a self-portrait project inspired by Frida Kahlo about her life, about her influences, about her illnesses, her love. I used a lot of secret Pinterest Boards to really get the idea process going, like seeing how I would set up all of my shots and see the general flow of how the story was going to come out." "I pin a lot of small backyard designs and we saw these ideas for stone patios. So we went to Home Depot and found stones that we loved. It was amazing. Pinterest led us to that idea. We're definitely not professionals, but Pinterest inspired us to be creative and feel capable"-- Michael in Alexandria, Virginia

“It was my wife's idea to have two chairs and then a corner bench. I thought, ‘I could build those.’ I had no idea how to do that, so I looked on Pinterest searching for 'DIY corner bench’ and I found a Pin with a cabinet underneath the bench...From there I went to the hardware store and grabbed the materials I needed and starting putting it together. It took a solid weekend.” - Steven in Nashville

“I moved from Brooklyn to Harlem and had to furnish my own apartment for the first time. It’s still a work in progress, but so far it’s a reflection of me and my style.”—Mbali in Harlem, saving gallery walls and pet-friendly houseplants on Pinterest

"I think that a really sweet thing about clothing and fashion is it can transform the way you view yourself and the way that other people view you too. I love it personally because I think it's art. It's really fun and I am constantly in my closet, trying new ideas. A lot of times I'll walk out and my husband will be like, "Mm, maybe. No, not so much. Try this with this." It's a way for me to be creative."-- Jordan, personal stylist and product designer in Nashville, Tennessee

"There's this romper that I've been eyeing. It's a denim romper, and it's something that you could just slip into, no zippers, just solid, semi-shapeless silhouette, so it's easy to just throw on. It wasn't quite my price point that I was wanting, so I kept looking and I just kept it on my Pinterest board. I think I re-pinned it later and decided that I would save up for it and get it, and I got it for my birthday."-Laura in Seattle

"I thought pasta salad sounded like a thing I should probably know how to make. The first recipe I looked at was easy—I mean, how can you mess it up? You make pasta, you chop some ingredients up, toss it all together, and add Italian dressing. It’s so good and was an instant hit. The next barbecue I go to, I'm making it. It’ll probably outshine the main course but I won't be sorry about it." -Kim in Nashville

“When I tried minimalism, I was throwing away a lot of stuff I liked. I realized having lots of things in the house makes my heart feel full. Every time I walk into my living room I spot something that means something to me.”—Callie in London, saving wall galleries and shelf styling on Pinterest

“One day I was on the couch and said, ‘Okay, what am I doing with these walls?’ I opened Pinterest and scrolled through ideas and found this 3D wall. I went to the store, bought everything I needed and I started right away.” - Mylène in Lyon, France

"I have a Pinterest board called adventure is out there and it doesn't really have any rules...There's places that I've been, there's places that I want to go, there's experiences that I've had like taking a cooking class or a surfing lesson, and then there's things that I'm planning to do like going on safari in Namibia, which is something I'm hoping to do in December."-Michael in Seattle

“After I graduated college, I realized I had some time on my hands and didn't have a hobby, so decided to give hand lettering a shot. In the process of teaching myself, I discovered this is not only something I'm good at, but something I love.”—Alexandra, unexpected artist from New Orleans, saving calligraphy and quotes on Pinterest

"I felt like I found a recipe that suited me, so that's been probably one of the best. And the first time I made it ... I think it was like Fourth of July at my parent's house and everyone just kind of stood around it as it sat on the countertop and they just kept like ... Ya know how people like to slice off like a little bit, they're like, I'm just gonna taste it? The same people kept coming back to me like, I'm just gonna taste it again, right."- Kamilah in Atlanta, Georgia

“To be honest, the furniture was so ugly when I moved in with my husband. He knew it too, so he didn't mind me doing a refresh. We both like spaces that feel a little modern, a little outdoorsy and very comfortable. It was sweet to redecorate and make it feel like ours.”—Emily in San Francisco, (she made that chair!), saving ideas for DIY decor on Pinterest

"This is something that my son and I said, "We really need to do this." When we get some decent weather the whole shed is going to be cleared out and we're putting in two or three of these racks. It’s inspired us also to get some really big mechanics tool trays because I work on my motorbike and my son works on his scooter."-John in Kingston-on-Thames, England
