The Sholes and Glidden typewriter (also known as the Remington No. 1) was the first commercially successful typewriter. Work began in 1867, but the machine's continued development problems led to short-lived attempts to manufacture it until it was acquired by E. Remington & Sons in 1873; after improvements, it was finally marketed on 7/1/1874.
It doesn't matter what you write on (I wrote the first two drafts of my novel The MoonQuest longhand!)...as long as you're writing. What are you waiting for? Write one word...any word.
