George Hurrell (1904-1992), dubbed the "Grand Seigneur of the Hollywood Portrait" originally learned how to use a camera so that he could photograph his paintings. Before long, taking photos took the place of painting. Over his career, he photographed many great stars, from Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, & Bette Davis to Greta Garbo, Errol Flynn, & Humphrey Bogart. His work set a new standard for Hollywood portraits. It even inspired a new name for the genre - glamour photography.
