Named after Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, was completed in August 1940, when she was commissioned into the German fleet. German cruiser Lützow (formerly Deutschland) with a snapped off stern in Kiel harbor sometime after April the 13th, 1940. The damage was caused by a torpedo hit from the submarine HMS Spearfish on April the 11th, during Operation Weserübung, the german invasion of Norway.  Notice the missing aft triple-torpedo tubes, removed while in port to begin the extensive repairs, which would take over a year to complete
