Martin Van Buren - Governor of New York, 1829. Shortly after becoming Governor, Van Buren became Vice-President of the United States under President Andrew Jackson.
President of US for less than 24 hrs as President Polk died on Sunday, Zachary Taylor refused to be sworn in on the sabbath so Atchison as head of senate was president until President Taylor was sworn in on Monday. Adkisson also became VP to President Pierce from April 1853 to December 1854 as Vice President William King died in office.
