Child's Dress c.1904 (Front View)
1860-1875 Princess dress
Little Boy's Summer Ensemble, circa 1875. Two-piece, skirt and top, heavy white corded cotton, soutache embroidery, grass woven beanie; belonged to David and/or Loomis Burrell, sons of Louisa Loomis Burell and David Burrell who built the Overlook Mansion in Little Falls, NY.
1780s American Child's dress at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia - Although small boys and girls were both put in dresses, if I had to venture a guess, I would say that this outfit was intended for a girl. The tabs around the waist are reminiscent of the flaring that appears at the foot of a caraco jacket; and the lacing down the front appears to be an attempt to create a false stomacher, a characteristic of many 18th century one-piece girl's dresses.
