Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan
King Jigme Namgyal Wangchuck, Queen Jetsun Pema and their young son Crown Prince Gyalsey and other members of the Royal Family celebrated the 109th National Day on December 17, 2016 in Trongsa. This is Prince Gyalsey's first National Day celebration. (Modern Bhutanese monarchy was established in 1907 by the Wangchuk family. Ugyen Wangchuk reunified the country and was unanimously chosen as the hereditary monarch of Bhutan. His coronation took place on December 17, 1907)

Last month King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk of Bhutan married 21 year old student Jetsun Pema, in a lavish ceremony in a Buddhist monastery in the Himalayas. The wedding was a huge event in the tiny, remote kingdom, as the King is much loved by the 700,000 inhabitants of Bhutan.
