Ruth Duckworth (1919-2009) --  Born in Hamburg, Germany, Duckworth fled the specter of Nazism in the 1930’s and moved to England, where she began her training and career as an artist. In the 1960’s an opportunity to teach at the University of Chicago brought her to America, where she has earned her reputation as one of our nation’s leading ceramists.
