Torrance’s first librarian, Isabel Henderson.) Isabel Henderson established the first public library in Torrance in 1913 in the parlor of her house at 1804 Gramercy Avenue.

Irving Gill's Torrance depot building in a photo from 1977.  |   When Red Car lines to the South Bay began to disappear in the 1940s, the building’s importance diminished and it was used for storage.  By the 1980s, attempts to preserve it as an historical landmark had failed, and the building had fallen into disrepair.
