Middleham Castle is located in Wensleydale, in the county of North Yorkshire, in England. The castle was built in 1270 on an earlier site from 1190. The castle ruins are extensive, and although the roof no longer exists, most of the walls are intact. The castle is rectangular in design and consists of a massive Norman keep surrounded by a later curtain wall. There are turrets in each corner and a midway along each wall.
