We Ain't in Kansas Any More~David Larwill. His distinctive style evolved, influenced by movements as diverse as tribal art, aboriginal art, abstracted figuration of the 1940s and 1950s, outsider and children’s art, graffiti, and the work of Dubuffet. Beneath a veneer of innocence, Larwill’s paintings are controlled and sophisticated, characterised by their simplified forms and overall pattern, populated with stylised, animated and tribal-like human figures and animals.

Karel Appel, (1921-2006), In november 1948 bezochten enkele leden van de Experimentele Groep een internationale conferentie over avant-garde kunst in Parijs, die was georganiseerd door Franse en Belgische surrealistische collega's. Onder anderen de Belg Christian Dotremont vond de benadering van de Fransen te sektarisch. Enkele Deense, Nederlandse en Belgische kunstenaars trokken zich daarop terug uit het congres en richtten de groep Cobra op. -1951
