Grey flannel suits were very popular among business men in particular during the 1950s. These replaced the English drape cut - being suits with less padded shoulders and a more narrow silhouette in comparison. The shades of grey available varied, but dark grey/charcoal was perhaps the most popular color.

In 1931, the company also began to produce suits from the cloth. The washable suit was comfortable to wear and the Palm Beach suit became the staple of the well-dressed man's summers wardrobe.
