1930s Art Deco Chryselephantine Sculpture • Signed Max Le Verrier

Max Le Verrier Paris based French sculptor noted for his sometimes cubist bronze animal figurines inspired by visits to the Paris zoo and circuses, and his figural Biba lamps.

Another violent figurine showed the death of Lt. Hugh Munro, who was attacked by a tiger while hunting in India. The figure was modeled after a life-size automaton created for a Sultan of Mysore, ostensibly celebrating India’s defeat of the British. Photos © Myrna Schkolne 2013.
