John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie was an American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, composer and, occasionally, singer.

Dizzy Gillespie ~ Early on, all too often the target of a racist comment, Dizzy was known to remain cool and calm, totally disregarding their ignorance.  This picture was taken around the time of an oft told incident:  Diz was overheard finally responding to racist remarks by saying,"You cur you!"  the white guy began slowly walking away with a confused look, mumbling under his breath, "huh?...what does that mean?"
