Idyllic Sanur Beach, Bali. It's easy to forget this is the spot where Japanese soldiers first landed. The invasion forces made Bali an early target of their campaign in the Indies, sending in a small expeditionary force several weeks before they invaded Java. On the morning of 19 February 1942, about 300 Japanese landed on Sanur Beach, and marched unopposed into Denpasar and subsequently assumed control of the entire island. Administrative offices were installed in Denpasar and Singaraja.
