François Catroux Reflects on a Career of Elite Interiors
In another New York apartment — this one in the Carlyle and belonging to duty-free tycoon Robert Miller and his wife, Chantal — François Catroux drew inspiration for his design from the building’s Art Deco aesthetic. “A lot of Art Deco designers were influenced by Africa,” he notes of the room’s safari accents. In this space, Catroux deployed both furniture actually from Africa and “interpretations of it in the French moderne style,” as well as artworks by Jean Dunand and Fernando Botero.
