The peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus) is renowned for its speed, reaching over 200 mph during its hunting dive. Females are considerably larger. It can be found nearly everywhere on earth except New Zealand. Its diet consists almost exclusively of medium-sized birds but will occasionally hunt small mammals, small reptiles, or even insects. Reaching sexual maturity at 1 yr, it mates for life nests normally on cliff edges or, in recent times, on tall human-made structures.
