Oku Asakusa "Benten" soba-ya 2/13 The very unassuming on the outside "Benten" is small and cosy with only a few tables serving at most 20 people. #Asakusa, #Sensoji, #Oku, #Benten, #soba December 7, 2014 © Grigoris A. Miliaresis

And here's one more picture from last weekend's snow (in the meantime we had one more round yesterday): kids building an igloo at Kaminarimon Dori/Street -hard to believe this is Asakusa, right?

December is coming and with it, the next big Asakusa event: the Toshi no Ichi market specializing in hagoita (decorated battledores/talismans). This is this year's promo poster for the event at Ginza Line's Asakusa Station with the artwork echoing the pre WWII era. The market will be held on December 17, 18 and 19. #Asakusa, #Toshi, #Ichi, #hagoita, #Ginza November 21, 2015 © Grigoris A. Miliaresis

From my Nihon Arekore blog but appropriate: a model of Japan’s first skyscraper, the “Ryounkaku” or “Asakusa Junikai” that stood at the west of "Hanayashiki" amusement park from 1890 to 1923 (it was destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake). Next to it a wooden sign of the original "Hanayashiki"; both from the "Shitamachi Museum" (http://www.taitocity.net/taito/shitamachi/) in Ueno. #Asakusa, #Ryounkaku, #Junikai, #Hanayashiki, #shitamachi, #Ueno August 16, 2014 © Grigoris A.
