She had just left days earlier to deliver supplies to the Orient, but was recalled to SF to assist with reinforcements needed in Hawaii. As part of the ship's conversion into a US Army Transport vessel, the photos show that the lanai suites have been closed off. Soon the ship's hull and stacks would be painted grey to make them less visible at sea.
