Bridal costume of Alexandria (Yidas), Imathia, Macedonia. Early 20th c. ©Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation. The bridal costume was worn in villages in the plain of Yannitsa. The bridal headdress is a katsoúli me tis foúndes: the katsoúli is the egg-shaped part of the headdress, held in place on the crown of the head by a lock of hair from married women. Wrapped round the katsoúli are three kerchiefs. One hangs down the back and is called the peristéra (dove).
