Candy Cane Tear Art {holiday craft ideas} - Miss Kindergarten
Now that it’s December, we’re officially transforming our room into a winter wonderland! Last week we made these adorable candy canes! Tear art is wonderful for fine motor practice! But it does ensue a lot of sweat and tears {on both the teacher’s and students’ part ;)} I copied this candy cane template onto white […]
2 point perspective fantasy treehouses - grade 5/6
This is a fantastic project that I did with my grade 5/6 class before March break. I wanted to do something with 2 point perspective, as ...
The Polar Express December Quilt
On Friday we got to do our December quilt. December's is one of my favorites because it teams up with The Polar Express, such a Christmas classic. I use the polar express all month long because we "ride the polar express" for our holiday party before break. The kiddos get hot cocoa with candy cane stirs, cookies, and they get to watch the movie. I am definitely considering letting them wear their pjs this year... OK, back to the quilt... We read the story and talk about the first gift of…
Whoville
Third graders have really enjoyed making "Whoville" in Art class. Each student has a long piece of paper to fill with Who houses and trees. We even made the grinch peeking over the town. This has been a great project to inspire the third graders during these long school days before break!

"Polar Bears Under the Northern Lights" by Grade 5
I love these! Big thanks to Mary and her Marymaking art blog. Here is a link to her lesson that inspired me, http://marymaking.blogspot.com/2011/12/polar-bears-with-northern-lights.html. The fifth grade worked so hard on these and it was wonderful to see them so excited about a project. It took 1.5 art classes to complete. They are now hanging in the hallway just past the office ready for viewing. Come check them out! Here are some you can check out right now...
Polar Express
This has turned out to be a great 1-day lesson for my first graders this crazy week before Christmas break! They're all watching "Polar Express" anyway, so I thought I'd dangle the splatter box in front of their noses like a little carrot. It's working!!! We used white oil pastel to draw the train, and colored oil pastels to color the train, trees, and snow in. If they behaved, they got to use the splatter box to make their snow!!! These are so much fun and make for nice wintery scenes (even…

Fine Lines
My friend, Hallie, has a new book out and it is a delicious suspense novel that you can read in just a couple of days. I just realized yesterday that we will back to school in a month and my stack of books to read is every bit as tall as it was at the beginning of summer!! Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer:)))

Fine Lines
With International Dot Day coming up this week I thought it might be fun for students to experiment with color and 3 different media choices. Years ago a parent gave me a large collection of buttons that I still have not exhausted, even though I have used them to start several art projects. I thought they could be the starting dot. To introduce the stripes, David Shannon's A Bad Case of Stripes provides the perfect springboard to discuss color theory (whatever aspect is appropriate to the…
