Personal work. Created in Zbrush, Maya, Ornatrix, Houdini and Substance painter rendered with Arnold. The original inspiration for this one was a very simple old illustration of Blackbeard so I decided to take it further to create a full 3D portrait. As always started from a sphere then retopologised and textured everything for render. With every project I try to learn something new so in this case I've used Houdini to create the smoke so it was a great opportunity to learn the basics.
