Popsicle Stick Puzzles Tutorial
My friend pinned this on Pinterest the other day: And I thought, hey that would make a super cute toddler activity! And, how fun would it be to make some seasonal themed puzzles! I decided to make a set to send to my little niece since my kids are a little too old for these. Although, my eight year old had a blast helping me with these today! Here's what we did: First we printed off some cute Fall pictures--just regular 4x6 prints from Walmart. I like to put my pictures on photo paper…

I just couldn't wait to post about our Jackson Pollock guitars! The first day, third graders learned about Jackson Pollock. We read Action Jackson, and got a feel for how Pollock lived and worked. We learned that Pollock dripped and drizzled house paint all over huge canvases in his studio. Next, we did our own abstract expressionist string paintings. We used clothespins to hold the strings this year and it was SO much better than fingers! After that, we did something that Pollock would have…

a faithful attempt
We have a loooong winter where I live, so I tend to do quite a few winter-themed lessons. I sure love how they look but do not enjoy the cold at all! This is a snowmen lesson where I wanted to show my Grade 3's how they can give the illusion of distance or space in their work by using two different sizes of snowmen. I had them draw them in profile just to mix it up a bit. They started off by drawing their snowmen in pencil on 12" x 12" light blue construction paper. For colouring them, I…

organic shape MONSTERS!
This is a great lesson I do every year with my Kindergartners and I never get tired of it! It is a great lesson to teach about geometric-vs-organic shape. First, I read them the book "Jeremy Draws a Monster" by Peter McCarty. It is an excellent book about a boy who draws a monster who is not a very good friend. The students then decide that if they were to draw a monster they would make a nice monster, even if they looked mean. I just love the answers they have for everything! I give each of…
