The life cycle of Entamoeba histolytica begins when humans ingest infective cysts via feces, fingers, food, fomites, and fleas. Then the cyst passes to the small intestine where excystation occurs and trophozoites multiply asexually by binary fission. The diagnostic stage is marked by resistant, infective cysts passed in feces.

E.histolytica has two stages which are trophozoite and cysts. The cysts are marked by the presence of a chromatoid body, and chromatin clumping along with several karyosomes. The trophozoite is makred by a single karyosome and ingested RBC. The infection can be treated with iodoquinol, paromomycin, metronidazole, dehydroemetine, and combinations.
