Today marks the 75th anniversary of the bloody machine gun massacre by Japanese forces of fleeing soldiers, ship crew, and nurses. Among the losses were 22 Australian nurses, who like the 60 Australian and British soldiers and crew members from two sunken ships, were forced to wade into the water off Radji Beach on the Indonesian island of Bangka, and machine gunned to death.
