To me it's about slowing down and really being present in the moment. Opening up to it. Embracing it. Being in awe of it. Simply being in it. Making the time to give myself the gift of full immersion and full appreciation.
Last night, Dan and I were talking about how, as a child, I collected seashells (in the same way that others collected baseball cards or stickers) and would ask anyone who had been to the beach to bring me back some.
“This is a blessing,” I kept repeating to myself as I packed my suitcase at the last minute for my first cruise. I was scared, which isn’t the typical reaction to going on a cruise! For my 15th anniversary, we were hopping on a boat to Bermuda. The only thing was, I had been living afraid for years and didn’t know it until I booked the trip.

It takes some practice, but if all you did was slow down and learn to listen to the still, small voice of your heart, instead of that wild pack of wolves in your head, life would go a lot more smoothly. There is no better time than the present to begin learning to develop and trust your subtler senses. The Power of a Question
I awoke from a dream with a question dangling clearly in my mind: “Are you a storyteller?” I didn’t know who had asked it or where it came from, but it was prominent enough to stay with me for days.

Ave Maria
I know that she was with me in that moment, and I know that she’s with me now. I can feel her. And now I know that any time I need to feel her close to me, I can play this song and know that we’re together again. She’s gone. But she’s still here. That I know for sure.

Passing the Baton
I’m feeling a bit lost and am looking for guidance, and once again, he’s there to offer it – in his own quiet, non-intrusive way. Be authentic, he said. Accept yourself, he said. Live a life where you feel free, he said. Do what you love, he said. Be kinder to yourself, he said. Let go of perfection, he said. Allow yourself to be happy, he said. I needed to hear each of these messages. Right now. And he made sure I did.

Ready to Soar
I turned toward my plane and started running as fast as I could. There was no way I was going to miss it. No matter where it was heading, I was ready to soar.
Suffering in bad situations is not a requirement.  Things happen and we feel bad, yes, but it is when we get stuck in them and the irrational interpretations we have built around them that we suffer.  It is when we perceive it as happening to us that we feel beaten down.  It is when we get lost in all our negative answers to the unanswerable whys that we begin to do damage to ourselves, falling into that downward spiral of negative thinking. Walking the Route to Yourself
I took the bus from Galway into a little village, deciding that I would walk and find beds as I went. It just seemed like what I was supposed to do. Before I got off the bus, the driver asked me what I was looking for. “I don’t know,” I said, “but I’ll know it when I find it.”

Magic on the Wings of Prayer
In March 1993, John and I had our hearts set on two particular souvenirs from our road trip: I wanted a shaman’s drum, and John wanted a dreamcatcher. I felt sure we’d know the right ones when we saw them. Yet, town after town, nothing was really making itself known to us.
