1tableedit.jpgThis is a model of a Chinese Temple bracket used in the Sung Dynasty, 960 C.E. 1279 C.E. This reconstruction is based in the Yingzao Fashi. ( A manual of construction of the Soung court ) The design is composed of a network of tight-fitting Dou components and Gong components, creating a flexible joint with structural integrity. Each successive piece relies on the component above and below it. This project was created during an architectural history seminar in 2003.
Dougong (Chinese: 斗拱; pinyin: dǒugǒng; literally "cap [and] block") is a unique structural element of interlocking wooden brackets, one of the most important elements in traditional Chinese architecture.
