This picture represents a classic image of a Geisha dressed for an average working evening. Note that she is clad from throat to feet in thick padded robes that reveal nothing. Her face is hidden behind a thick cosmetic masks that reveals nothing beyond a serene and classic beauty. A Geisha could assume this posture for hours if need be. Parade rest, as it were. The true Geisha was a Consummate Professional Hostess and Entertainer, not a sexual object.
geisha-licious: Tomoyuki (i’m truly in love with this photo) I couldn’t find the original source, so I can only guess the date of theis photo. Since Tomoyuki is only painting her lower lip in this photo (they usually don’t do this in Pontocho), I guess she is either a Minarai here or the photo was taken shortly after her Misedashi. -> February 2007
