House of Wisdom
The House of wisdom Baghdad. At the House of Wisdom, scholars of many nationalities and religions translated into Arabic, Greek, Persian and Indian works on mathematics, logic, astronomy, philosophy and the exact sciences, and wrote commentaries on those texts as well as original works of their own.
The House of Wisdom was a library and translation institute in Baghdad, Iraq.Along with all other libraries in Baghdad, the House of Wisdom was destroyed during the Mongol invasion of Baghdad, in 1258. The waters of the Tigris ran black for 6 months with ink from the books flung into the river. The amt. of knowledge lost that year is indescribable. Most people are familiar with the destruction of the library of Alexandria, but few know about the loss of the House of Wisdom.
